Photon Bunching at TeV Energies

Harwit, Protheroe, and Biermann (1999) recently proposed that BoseEinstein photon bunching might significantly affect the interpretation of Cerenkov counts of TeV gamma photons. Here, we show that a combination of two recent results of Aharonian et al. (2000) and Aharonian et al. (2001) permits us to set new, more stringent upper limits of ∼< 10% on the fractional amount of photon bunching in t...

Closed Strings in Misner Space: Stringy Fuzziness with a Twist

Misner space, also known as the Lorentzian orbifold R1,1/boost, is the simplest tree-level solution of string theory with a cosmological singularity. We compute tree-level scattering amplitudes involving twisted states, using operator and current algebra techniques. We find that, due to zero-point quantum fluctuations of the excited modes, twisted strings with a large winding number w are fuzzy...

Photon Cross Sections at Ecm = 2 Tev

Photon production rates have been studied by the DØ and CDF experiments in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Measurements of the inclusive isolated photon cross section and the di-photon cross section are presented, based on integrated luminosities of 0.3 fb −1 and 0.2 fb −1 , respectively. The results are compared to perturbative QCD calculations in various approximations.

q-FUZZY SPHERES AND QUANTUM DIFFERENTIALS ON Bq[SU2] AND Uq(su2)

We show that the 2-parameter Podles sphere is a q-fuzzy sphere precisely interpolating between the fuzzy sphere as quotient of the angular momentum algebra U(su2) and the standard q-sphere Cq [S] as subalgebra of the quantum group Cq [SU2]. Whereas the classical sphere as CP 1 can be defined as the algebra generated by the matrix entries of a projector e with trace(e) = 1, the fuzzy-sphere is d...

Problems of multi-TeV photon colliders

A high energy photon collider (γγ, γe) based on backward Compton scattering of laser light is a very natural supplement to e+e− a linear collider and can significantly enrich the physics program. The region below about one 0.5–1 TeV is very convenient from a technical point of view: wave length of the laser should be about 1 μm, i.e. in the region of most powerful solid state lasers, collision ...
